About A2ZDocs
What A2ZDocs is
A2ZDocs is a free website with 37 tools for everyday PDF jobs: merging, splitting and reordering pages, compressing, editing, signing, filling in forms, redacting, making scans searchable, preparing files for archiving, and converting PDFs to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images and text. You can see them all on the home page.
There is nothing to install and no account to create. Open a tool, choose your file and download the result.
Why everything happens in your browser
Most online PDF services ask you to upload your document to their servers, process it there and send it back. That works, but it means a copy of your contract, bank statement, exam certificate or medical report sits, at least for a while, on a computer you know nothing about.
A2ZDocs works the other way round. When you open a tool, your browser downloads the program code from a2zdocs.com, and your own device does the work. Your files are read into the browser tab, processed there and saved straight back to your device. They are never uploaded.
This is enforced by your browser, not just promised. The site's Content-Security-Policy stops the page from connecting to any server other than a2zdocs.com, and the only things it fetches from a2zdocs.com are its own code, fonts and the language data used for text recognition. If you like, you can check this yourself in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools while you use a tool.
There are no accounts, cookies, analytics, adverts or third-party scripts. The Privacy Policy explains the little that is stored, and where.
How it works
A2ZDocs is built on open-source software that can run inside a browser. We are grateful to the people who make it:
- pdf-lib, for creating and changing PDF files.
- Mozilla PDF.js, for showing pages and reading their text.
- qpdf, compiled to WebAssembly, for passwords, encryption and repairing damaged files.
- HarfBuzz, for shaping text and fitting fonts into PDFs, including Indian and other complex scripts.
- Tesseract OCR, for recognising text in scans, with language data for 124 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia and Urdu.
- docx and pptxgenjs, for writing Word and PowerPoint files.
- fflate, for fast compression.
- The Noto fonts, so text you add displays properly in many scripts.
Because the work happens on your device, speed depends on your computer or phone. Large files and text recognition take longer on older devices, but there is no uploading, no queue and no file-size limit set by a server; the practical limit is your device memory.
Who it is for
A2ZDocs is for anyone who needs a PDF job done quickly, and especially for people who would rather not hand their documents to a stranger:
- Students putting together assignments, applications and scanned certificates.
- Office workers who merge, sign, compress and convert documents every day.
- Anyone handling sensitive papers, such as ID documents, bank and tax records, medical reports and legal documents.
- People who work in Indian languages and want to make scanned Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and other documents searchable. Our guide to OCR in Indian languages shows how.
It is free
Every tool is free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no adverts. If analytics or advertising are ever added, the Privacy Policy will be updated first, before anything changes on the site.
