Phone cameras save photos of several megabytes, far more than a form, a listing site or an email needs. At 200 KB a photo can still look sharp on a laptop screen, so this size suits document photos where small text must stay readable, property and product listings, portfolios, and photos you want to email in a batch. This page opens Compress image with 200 KB ready.
All the work happens in your browser, so family photos and pictures of documents stay on your own device.
How to compress a photo to 200 KB
- Choose the photos, or drop them onto the page.
- Leave Target size (KB) at 200, or change it if the site asks for something else.
- For a set of photos that should match, give them all the same Longest side (px), such as 1600.
- Select "Compress image" and download the results.
Quality before pixels
The tool lowers the JPEG quality first, keeping the highest quality between 95% and 30% that fits in 200 KB. Only when even 30% is too big are the width and height reduced, and then the note says from what to what. Large, detailed phone photos often need both; setting a Longest side yourself lets you choose the balance.
Tips
- Choose WebP under Save as if the site accepts it: it usually gives a sharper photo in the same 200 KB.
- Screenshots and graphics saved as PNG shrink far more as JPEG or WebP.
- A photo already under 200 KB in the chosen format is kept exactly as it was.
- Need one document? Put the compressed photos into a single PDF with JPG to PDF.
Frequently asked questions
How many photos can I compress at once?
As many as you like. They are done one after another on your device, so a long batch on an older phone simply takes a little longer. Download them together as a ZIP.
Will the photos still print well?
They look good on screen but may be soft in a large print. Keep your originals for printing, and use the 200 KB copies for sharing and uploading.
Does it keep portrait photos upright?
Yes. Phone photos are turned the way they were taken before they are compressed, so a portrait photo doesn't come out on its side.
Is 200 KB the same as 0.2 MB?
Near enough. Here 200 KB means 200,000 bytes, which is no more than 0.2 MB however a site counts a megabyte, so it fits limits written either way.
Is my photo sent anywhere?
No. Compression runs in your browser tab and the result is saved straight to your device.
