Schengen visa photo, 35 × 45 mm

Passport, visa and ID photos sized to the official rules.

Schengen visa applications follow the international ICAO photo standard: a recent 35 × 45 mm colour photo, front view, with the face filling 70 to 80 % of the height (about 32 to 36 mm from chin to crown) and a plain light background. This page opens the photo maker with those rules loaded, so the guides show the right head size.

The photo is processed only in your browser and never leaves your device.

How to make a Schengen visa photo

  1. Country and Document are already set to European Union (Schengen) and Schengen visa.
  2. Drop a recent colour photo, facing the camera, without sunglasses or a hat.
  3. Let Auto-fit size the face, or drag and zoom until the guides turn green.
  4. Keep Background on "As required" for light grey, choose Print on, and select "Make photo".
  5. Print the sheet at actual size and cut out the photos your consulate asks for, usually two.

The rules in brief

  • Size: 35 mm wide × 45 mm high, in colour.
  • Face: 70 to 80 % of the photo height, about 32 to 36 mm.
  • Background: plain and light-coloured, white or light grey.
  • Front view, no headgear except for religious reasons, no sunglasses.
  • Most consulates ask for 2 photos.

One standard, local details

The Schengen rules come from the common EU Visa Code and the ICAO standard, so the same photo works for every Schengen country in most cases. Individual consulates and their visa centres sometimes add details, such as a preference for a white background or an exact number of photos, so check your consulate's checklist before your appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is a Schengen visa photo the same size as a passport photo?

It is the same 35 × 45 mm as most European passport photos. A 2 × 2 inch US-style photo is a different shape and isn't accepted.

Can I wear glasses?

Clear glasses are usually accepted if your eyes are fully visible and there is no glare. Sunglasses and tinted lenses are not.

Do I need a white background?

A plain light background is required. Light grey and white are both safe; "As required" uses light grey.
