An Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) application needs a square photo: 2 × 2 inches, with a plain white or light background. The online form also checks the digital copy, which must be a square JPEG between 200 and 1500 pixels wide and no more than 500 KB.
This page opens the photo maker with the OCI rules loaded, so you get a print and an upload file that match. The picture is handled entirely in your browser.
How to make an OCI photo
- Country and Document are already set to India and OCI card.
- Drop a recent front-facing photo against a plain wall.
- Let Auto-fit place the head, or drag and zoom until the head and eye guides turn green.
- Keep Background on "As required" for white, then select "Make photo".
- Upload the online copy to the OCI form, and print the sheet if the mission asks for paper photos.
The rules in brief
- Size: 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), square.
- Head: 25 to 35 mm from chin to the top of the hair, eyes 29 to 35 mm up from the bottom.
- Background: plain white or light-coloured.
- No tinted or dark glasses.
- Upload: square JPEG, 200 to 1500 px, up to 500 KB. Use the same photo as the prints.
The signature upload
The OCI form also asks for a signature image with a 3:1 shape, from 200 × 67 to 1500 × 500 pixels. Sign in dark ink on white paper, photograph it, and use Signature for forms with a size of 600 × 200 px to get a clean, correctly shaped file. Details are in the official photo and signature specification.
Frequently asked questions
The OCI site rejects my photo. Why?
The usual reasons are a photo that isn't square, too large a file, or a face that is too small in the frame. The online copy made here is square and under 500 KB, with the head sized to the rules.
Can I use my US passport photo?
The print size is the same 2 × 2 inches, so a compliant US photo is usually close. Run it through this page anyway to get an upload file that meets the OCI limits.
Does a child need a different photo?
The same size applies. For babies, lay them on a plain white sheet and take the photo from above; the tool straightens and crops it.
